Soap Opera Fans Say Goodbye, World Turns for Final Time

OKLAHOMA CITY – Soap opera fans will be saying goodbye to "As the World Turns."

After 54 years on the air, it's the latest soap opera to end. NEWS 9 will air the final episode Friday, September 16 at 1 p.m.

"They become a part of your world and the most difficult thing of letting go of Barbara Ryan was letting go of my 'As the World Turns' family," said "As the World Turns" star Colleen Zenk.

The program started as a radio show in the 1950s.

Actors Meg Ryan, Julianne Moore and James Earl Jones all got their start on the show.

Soap operas have been struggling to hold onto their audiences. Last September Guiding Light went off the air after 72 years.
