DUNCAN, Oklahoma -- A man riding a horse was killed Monday night near Duncan when a car struck the animal.
State troopers said 19-year-old Sidni Southerland was driving a Mazda on Gaitland Road west of the State Highway 7 bypass when the horse jumped in front of the car.
The car struck the horse, throwing the rider onto the hood. The victim, 39-year-old Shawn Scarbrough, died at the scene from head injuries.
Troopers don't know yet what caused the collision, but they reported Scarbrough smelled of alcohol.
There's no word on the condition of the horse.
