OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man accused of posing as a Census worker and shooting another man in the face has been released from jail on bond and is now under house arrest in Noble.

John Wellington, 67, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and shooting with intent to kill Howard Wolff on June 25.

He was released at about 1 p.m. Monday.  He's now under house arrest at his brother's home in Noble and must wear an ankle bracelet monitor.

Wellington was released from jail on bond, despite objections from the victim's family and the Lincoln County district attorney.

Wellington was released from jail on bond Friday, August 20, then taken back into custody that same day when the victim's family and the district attorney objected.  The following Monday, the judge granted a defense motion to reduce bond from $2 million to $250,000, and allow Wellington to stay with his brother in Noble. The judge also instructed Wellington not to make contact with the victim or his family.

Wellington's next court date is a preliminary hearing set for September 28.
