EDMOND, Oklahoma -- Police are warning business owners in Edmond to watch out for copper thieves.
In the past few weeks, crooks have hit five businesses, stripping the copper wiring from air conditioners. They also swiped every line of copper from a house under construction.
"They're not getting very much money for this copper wiring, but they're leaving so much destruction in their path. Their house has to be totally rewired about $8,000 for this one house. Businesses are facing thousands of dollars in repair bills to get their air conditioners running," said Glynda Chu, Edmond Police Department.
Police are asking people who buy scrap metal to make sure they know who is selling the copper wiring and to call police if the seller seems suspicious.
