EDMOND, Oklahoma – A man was arrested three minutes after he robbed a pharmacy in Edmond.
Police said the suspect, William Keith Talbott, came up behind a female customer in the checkout line at the Hospital Discount Pharmacy on S. Bryant and held a large knife to her throat demanding drugs and money.
The clerk complied and handed the 29-year-old several sacks filled with drugs and money. Talbott turned and ran out of the pharmacy.
"Our officer was right across the street just driving by at the time he heard the call go out. He made a quick turnaround and by the time this man was out the door, our officer had spotted him and a foot pursuit began right then. Within three minutes from the time it began it was all over here," said Glynda Chu, Edmond Police Department spokesperson.
During the brief foot pursuit, Talbott ran to the end of a nearby apartment complex scaling one fence, but when he got to a second fence, an officer had closed in on him and made the arrest.
"When you drive through Edmond you always see our officers out working and this is proof of that today," Chu said.
Talbott had been dropping the bags of drugs as he ran. Officers were able to recover all the stolen drugs and money at the scene.
Talbott was arrested on an armed robbery complaint.
According to Charles Braden, the owner of the pharmacy, this was the first time in 25 years the pharmacy has been robbed. The last time was February, 1985.
