OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Norman man who sued the state over a proposed "IM GAY" license plate did not die from injuries he allegedly received from Tulsa police officers.
According to an autopsy report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Keith Kimmel, 28, died acute oxycodone toxicity.
The openly gay man was found dead at a home in Norman last March and some speculated his injuries were the result of an arrest in Tulsa in which he was injured.
Following that arrest, Kimmel filed a complaint against Tulsa Police for how he says officers treated him during the incident at a Tulsa gay bar.
Kimmel also made national news recently after he was denied a license plate with the letters "IM GAY" by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
The autopsy report does note the external injuries Kimmel alleged to have received during his arrest. It also says Kimmel suffered from atherosclerosis and morbid obesity.
