OKLAHOMA CITY -- A family is mourning the death of their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter after she drowned in the family's pool Saturday evening. Police said they are calling the incident a tragic accident.
After finding her daughter in the pool, the girl's mother jumped in, pulled her daughter out and began performing CPR, but police said it was too late.
The family told police they were in the front yard with their four kids, and at some point, the little girl got into the backyard and then fell into the pool. Police said the pool wasn't well kept and was murky, so it was possible the child could have been in the water for awhile.
These types of incidents, police said, are emotionally tough to respond to.
"This is really hard for us. Kids are your only true innocent victims, so its really hard for us," said Oklahoma City Police Officer Aaron Wake.
