OKLAHOMA CITY – A fisherman caught a record setting catfish in Lake El Reno Tuesday.
Richard Williams cast a line and pulled a 78 pound, 8 ounce flathead catfish into his boat.
Williams did not know he had broken a state record. The record weight was later verified from officials at the State Wildlife Department.
Williams plans to have the fish mounted for display in various areas in the future.
It is not uncommon to catch large catfish in Lake El Reno.
City of El Reno officials remind citizens to not only have their State Fishing Licenses, but also their local City fishing permits when fishing at Lake El Reno. Permits can be purchased at the City of El Reno Municipal Offices (101 N. Choctaw Ave.), Rudy's Quick Stop, Wal-Mart and Domino Express in El Reno.
