Two of Oklahoma's favorite news anchors are leaving the lights and camera of the studio behind for the mosquito nets and heat of Africa.
NEWS 9's Amy McRee and The News On 6's LeAnne Taylor will join Pros for Africa for a mission trip to Uganda.
Pros for Africa is group of pro athletes and professionals like doctors and lawyers who will travel to Gulu, Uganda to help children in the war-torn country.
"It's a place that's been torn apart by war and bloodshed and children have been caught in the middle," said LeAnne Taylor, Six in the Morning Anchor. "They are in need, and Oklahomans are known for helping those who are hurting."
Amy and LeAnne will be traveling with the group to tell the story of impact they are having in Africa.
"What I am most looking forward to is the chance to showcase stories about these men and women helping in a very dark part of the world," LeAnne Taylor said.
The group departs from Oklahoma City on Monday afternoon before flying to Dallas and London. From London, they fly to Entebbe, Uganda and then take a four-hour bus ride to their final destination, Gulu.
Amy McRee said she's been busy gathering all the essentials for the trip like insect repellent, hand sanitizer and a mosquito net for her bed.
"The checklist is much different than any other trip I've ever prepared for," she said.
Both Amy and LeAnne will be sending back reports while they are on the trip as well as prepare a 30 minute special program to air in April.
"I hope to give you a good sense of what mission work of this magnitude can accomplish when people come together to make a difference," Amy McRee said. "Please keep us in your prayers for safe travels and a successful mission."
