OKLAHOMA CITY -- The National Weather Service said a powerful storm system will affect the southern Plains through at least Thursday, bringing a chance of spring-like severe thunderstorms and snow to different areas of Oklahoma.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles for snow and blowing snow. Forecasters said the region could see 2 to 4 inches of snow, along with reduced visibility caused by winds of 10 to 20 mph, through Thursday.
Lows Wednesday night are forecast to range form the teens in the Panhandle to the middle 40s in southeastern Oklahoma. The metro has about a 70 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms during the day Wednesday, which is expected to turn into a wintry mix Wednesday evening into Wednesday night.
The entire state will see a chance of rain and snow on Thursday, as temperatures cool into a range from the middle 20s to upper 40s. Temperatures in the metro are expected to remain below freezing on Thursday.
The NEWS 9 Weather Center is predicting between 3 to 5 inches of snow locally. Some areas of the state may see as much as 6 inches.
