SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- Police are investigating a stabbing that took place outside of the Shawnee Mall.
Police said a man was sitting in his vehicle outside Sears in the Shawnee Mall when a suspect opened the passenger door and demanded money. When the man refused the suspect stabbed him in the stomach.
Police say the mall is usually a safe place, but you always have to pay attention to your surroundings.
"He wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. People just need to be more diligent in their surroundings," said Shawnee Police Sgt. Scott Hill.
The victim was taken to an area hospital, but his injuries were not life threatening. The victim's name and current condition have not been released.
Police have not been able to find anyone who witnessed the stabbing. If you have any information, call Shawnee police.
