ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - Tulsa head coach Todd Graham led his team from the press box not the sidelines as the Golden Hurricane had little trouble with New Mexico. G.J. Kinne threw four touchdown passes, while Slick Shelley and Trae Johnson hauled in two scores apiece in the Golden Hurricane 44-10 victory over the Lobos.
Tulsa scored 23 unanswered points in the second and third-quarters to separate itself from New Mexico. Kinne connected with Jamad Williams on a 21-yard touchdown pass to put the Golden Hurricane up 23-3 after a failed extra-point. Later in the third Kinne hit Slick Shelly for an 18-yard score to give Tulsa a 30-3 lead.
The only big miscue for Tulsa came in the fourth quarter. Kinne fumbled on a sack, Tray Hardaway scooped up the ball and went 92-yards the other way for a touchdown. The defense did not allow a touchdown.
Everybody got in on the action for the Golden Hurricane. Jacob Bower connected with Trae Johnson on a 28-yard touchdown pass to go up by 34.
Graham coached the game from the press box because he said he has had neck problems. Graham also stated he discussed the idea with athletic director Bubba Cunningham.
Tulsa racked up nearly 500-yards in total offense and amassed almost 1,000-yards over the last two weeks. The Golden Hurricane next will take a trip to Norman to face OU next Saturday.
