Alex Cameron moved to Oklahoma in 1995 to take a job at News 9 in Oklahoma City as a general assignment reporter. In the years since, Alex has been given a variety of anchoring duties – the morning show, weekends, 4:00 pm, and, most recently, the noon newscast. Throughout it all, however, Alex has continued to do the one thing that first attracted him to the business: report out in the field.
Alex has covered everything, from the legislative battles at the Capitol, to the challenges facing Oklahoma educators, to the devastating impact of tornadoes and ice storms. Reporting for NEWS 9 has taken Alex literally around the world: to Bosnia in 1996 to document the brave work of the Oklahoma-based 3rd Herd; to Colorado to cover the trial of Timothy McVeigh and to report on the 2001 OSU plane crash; to Washington, D.C. in 2005 to report on base realignment; to Seattle and New York to follow Oklahoma City's acquisition of the Thunder; and to Ukraine in 2017 to document the Oklahoma National Guard’s efforts to train Ukrainian soldier. Alex’s profiles of many of the state's World War II veterans garnered praise from the state's Veterans Administration and led to his participation in the dedication of the USS Oklahoma memorial at Pearl Harbor in 2007. Since 2009, Alex has led News 9’s investigative team, earning several regional Emmy awards, as well as, SPJ Oklahoma’s coveted First Amendment Award.
Alex grew up on the East Coast, living in both Maryland and New Jersey. He has a B.A. from Bucknell University and a Master's in journalism from New York University. Alex started his broadcasting career in radio in Delaware, which is where he also landed his first television job. Alex and his wife Ann believe in the value of community service and have played active roles in numerous nonprofit organizations in Oklahoma. They have two grown children, Sarah and Scott.
