OKLAHOMA CITY -- Police say a 1-year-old boy wandered into a backyard swimming pool in Oklahoma City and drowned.
Police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said the drowning occurred Monday afternoon at a home in the 6000 block of N.W. 84th Place.
The boy was found in the pool by a parent. He was pronounced dead at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center.
The father, who called police when he found the boy in the pool, said he left the baby asleep upstairs. Somehow the child managed to crawl downstairs, out the doggie door and then into the pool.
Firefighters tried to resuscitate the boy at the scene until paramedics from Emergency Medical Services Authority arrived to take him to the hospital.
Police are investigating the incident.
