OKMULGEE, OK -- The Muskogee Creek Nation honored veterans Saturday with a special ceremony in Okmulgee. They said they are proud of our veterans.
The tribe also took time to recognize two Native American families whose loved ones were lost to war.
Lori Ann Piestewa, the first woman killed in Iraq and Hatak Yearby, a U.S. marine also killed in Iraq, were honored.
"It touches me in my heart when we do this for them. The veterans understand and that's why they're all here. It's our healing process and I'm grateful that Creek Nation lets us do this, to honor our own and all nations," said Michael Coon, the event organizer.
The Muskogee Creek Nation has hundreds of tribal members that serve in the military.
