Feeling overwhelmed by your mortgage? Before you stress out, call Neighborhood Housing Services. They're a local, non profit and they offer free counseling when it comes to your mortgage and foreclosure. What's a little different now, is they used to only offer help to those with low or moderate income. Now they've opened it up to everyone.
Their number is 231-4663.
Thinking about buying a home? If you're a firs-time home-buyer, the agency offers a free, one day class on home-buyer education. It's 8 hours on a Saturday and if you invest that 1 day, you will walk away with the right information. Call them for the latest dates and times. I know there's one coming up on June 27th.
They also have information about a down-payment assistance program. There are certain income guidelines (like a 1person family can't make more than $32,750. And a family of 4 can't make more than 46,800). But the just of it is you will get 6 thousand dollars as a down payment. And as long as you stay in the home for 5 years, you don't have to pay the amount back. Give them a call for all the details.
