MARIETTA, Oklahoma -- Residents in southern Oklahoma were evacuated Thursday due to grass fires raging across the southern part of the state.
High winds fueled grass fires across Oklahoma including Love, Stephens and Carter counties.
Love County fire victims were able to evacuate to a shelter set up at Marietta First Methodist Church at 603 W Main St.
The Love County Sheriff's Department worked through the night to keep residents safe.
Damage assements have not been made and it's unclear if anyone was injured in the blaze.
Multiple roads were closed Thursday afternoon and into the evening along Oswalt Road and West of Pike Road. Residents to the north of that area were the first to evacuate.
Firefighters are working to put out hot spots across the major fire zones from Thursday night. Residents should be advised that windy conditions could continue fueling grassfires Friday.
