Strong storm system howling through the Central Plains

A strong storm system is moving through the Central Plains Wednesday, bringing blizzard conditions to Kansas and Nebraska, and strong winds and much colder weather to Oklahoma.  This potent system is ushering the coldest air of the Fall so far to Oklahoma. 

Strong thunderstorms will continue to move east out of the state Wednesday afternoon with the cold front.  

Gusty northerly winds up to 50 mph are also howling into the state.  A Wind Advisory is in effect for most of western of Oklahoma Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Oklahoma will remain windy and chilly through Thursday, with frosts possible Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights.  Some parts of the state may also have a first freeze, particularly in western parts of the state.

Elsewhere in the Plains, this storm system is bringing the first winter storm of the season to Nebraska and Kansas.  Up to a foot of snow is possible by Thursday in some places.  A Blizzard Warning is in effect for northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska because of blowing snow up to 45 mph that should develop Wednesday overnight into Thursday.

Snow fell Monday afternoon in Washington, with some snow showers through the northern Rockies Tuesday and Wednesday.
