(Otta, Norway)--Around 40 homes have been evacuated at the hamlet of Otta in Gudbrandsdalen, after a major landslide cut through a section of the village in the early hours of Friday morning. No one was injured.

The landslide which was 150 ft wide and 900 ft long, damaged several houses and blocked the major highway E6 before it stopped.

The police had at last count evacuated around 150 persons, because they fear more landslides in the area.

Heavy rains and melting snow in the mountains above the village are believed to have set off the landslide.

Miraculously, no injuries have been reported.
