EDMOND, Okla. -- A local businessman has purchased the Oak Tree Golf Club and promises improvements to the course.
Ed Evans announced Tuesday he had purchased the course from Don Mathis with the intent of luring another professional major event, or perhaps landing an annual stop on the PGA Tour.
The club previously hosted the 1984 U.S. Amateur, 1988 PGA Championship, 2000 PGA Club Pro Championship and the 2006 Senior PGA Championship.
It cost $3 million to build the club in 1974. Mathis was part of a group that purchased it for $3.5 million in 1994.
