The Putnam City School district is utilizing podcasts and a Web site called "Voice Thread" to give students a creative way to learn.

Voice Thread is a Web site where students can post pictures, documents or video.

"These guys are ready to take things to the next level and that mean digital learning that means technology and voice threads really plays into that," teacher Marvin Lee said.

The technology also connects students with their families, District Spokesman Steve Lindley said.

"Those grandparents, aunts, uncles, extended family living in extended distances away - they have an opportunity to hear the children that are important to them and see what they are excited about in their classrooms," Lindley said.

Family members also can see what's going on in the classrooms and throughout the district through student and faculty produced podcasts.

Teachers said they are careful about students going online. The work posted on the Voice Thread Web site can only be viewed through invitation.
