Dickson, Okla. -- A 12-year-old Dickson student died in Dallas after collapsing at a junior high basketball game.
Luke Davis collapsed less than two minutes after the game started on Monday, said Superintendent Sherry Howe. Davis then collapsed again as his father was preparing to take him home. The seventh grader was taken to a hospital in Ardmore then flown to Children's hospital in Dallas where he died the next morning.
Davis always wore a smile and a jersey. He played basketball, football and baseball. Howe said Davis was a leader on and off the court.
Long time friends said Luke was very popular, not only was he a classmate, he was a loving son every parent would want, whose laugh was contagious and whose humor was the best medicine.
Howe said Davis had not complained of being sick and had practiced earlier in the day. She said doctors told her the death may be due to an undiagnosed heart rhythm disorder.
Area ministers and counselors joined school counselors on the Dickson campus to help students and faculty cope with Davis' death.
The town of just over 1,100 is slightly east of Ardmore.
