It was THE controversial play of the Fiesta Bowl. OU pulled within 20-15 then Garrett Hartley's on-side kick attempt didn't go 10 yards and West Virginia recovered. They would score on the possession and never looked back.
The overwhelming majority of my radio show callers hated the decision. I liked it. I thought it was a great call that it was just poorly executed. If Hartley kicks it 10 yards he recovers it easily and OU may very well march down and take the lead. More than anything, I liked the guts that Stoops showed in that call. That's the old Riverboat Gambler Bob that we knew in his first couple of years in Norman. The key to a good "trick play" is to do it when nobody expects it.
It didn't work, but I thought it was the right call. Your thoughts?
