Jed Castles is a 4th generation Oklahoman and has been serving up the morning forecast on NEWS 9 since 1996.
Weather and forecasting have been Castles' passion for most of his life. One spring day, when he was just seven years old, flooding rains surrounded his house. Large hail and lightning knocked out power. While Castles' parents were out to dinner, a tornado swept through southwest Tulsa, close enough to be a threat to their home. At that terrifying and strangely exciting moment, while huddling in a dark closet, Castles realized he wanted to learn more about these bizarre forces of nature. Castles' enthusiasm and expertise have only grown since. Jed has received many awards and recognition including 1st place video from SPJ Oklahoma for his service in the tornado coverage of May 24th, 2008 as well as an Emmy for the best morning newscast in 2011.
A native of Tulsa, and a graduate of Tulsa Memorial High School, Castles earned his bachelor's degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. Castles is recognized by the American Meteorological Society and has earned their seal of approval.
Castles gained a great wealth of forecasting experience working around the country. After briefly working at KOAM in Pittsburg, Kansas, Castles spent three years with KWWL in snowy Waterloo, Iowa. He then traveled to North Carolina, forecasting between the Appalachians and the Atlantic at WFMY in Greensboro. Then, Castles received a call from Gary England at News 9. With a wealth of weather experience, from hurricanes to nor'easters, he was excited to move his family back home to Oklahoma.
Castles was approved by the governor to serve on the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Council (2005-2008 and is a graduate of Oklahoma's Partners in Policymaking. Castles' passion lies in public awareness and emergency preparedness especially for those with disabilities.
