A child is dead after being struck by a vehicle on the northwest side of the metro, Wednesday afternoon.
First responders were called out to the scene near NW 10th St. and N. Portland Ave., slightly northwest of OSU-OKC, just after 4 p.m. Police shut down 10th St. in both directions while crews work the scene.
Authorities initially told News 9 the victims were teenagers; a male and a female. Just before 7 p.m. a fire official said the deceased was a young child, but did not know the exact age. The male was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The original report that the male was in critical condition was incorrect. Neither victim has been identified at this time.
Rashida Jones watched from outside the police tape. She told News 9 her brother was the involved driver, who stayed at the scene to speak with investigators.
“It’s a sad thing on both sides. So we just got to keep both families in prayer,” she said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
