Oklahoma City police are on the hunt for several suspects connected to a drive-by shooting Sunday morning.
The shooting happened in broad daylight outside a convenience store near SE 44th Street and Sunnylane Road.
“It was scary,” said witness Elsa Contreras. “So early in the morning we're getting ready to go to church.”
Elsa Contreras and her husband Benny were about 200 yards away from the Good Time Market when they heard and saw the commotion.
“All of a sudden we heard these gunshots and my husband tells me to get down,” she said.
“I saw the back flash of the fire when they were being fired, total about 25 rounds,” Benny Contreras said.
He said they didn’t get a look at the car of any of the suspects as they ducked into the Braums across the street.
“You could see all the people that were running from the corner, one guy was behind a telephone pole that was there trying to hide and not to get shot,” Elsa Contreras said.
Oklahoma City police said a customer was shopping inside the store and had just returned to their car when at least two suspects inside a black car, believed to be a Dodge Magnum, pulled up and riddled the car with bullets.
Crime scene tape remained up most of the day as police combed the area for evidence and interviewed witnesses.
"We don't yet know what their relationship is or what may have started this incident, that's something we're looking into once we figure out who all these people are,” said Oklahoma City police Lt. Jeff Spruill.
The driver in the car hit was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while the passenger ran away, uninjured. The suspects remain at large. Nobody else was injured.
Oklahoma City homicide detectives are investigating. If you have any information about this crime, call Oklahoma City police.
