A more than 12-hour manhunt in Shawnee turned into a standoff that didn't end until just before midnight on Wednesday.

Police apprehended Jerod Parsons in the 1200 block of N. Philadelphia in a shed behind a residence. Police say Parsons was taken into custody without incident.

News 9 has learned Parsons was also wanted on an active warrant in addition to the crimes from early Wednesday morning.

According to Shawnee police, at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, someone called police to report that they had been threatened with a drive-by shooting. The callers stated that the suspect was on his way to shoot up a house.

When officers responded to the home on the southwest side of town, they saw the suspect's vehicle and tried to stop it on Madeline Drive. The driver refused to stop. That's when a short pursuit began.

Police said the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Jerod Parsons, fired several shots at officers during the chase. He was able to get away.

Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed their SWAT team surrounded a house near Hobson and Wallace where they believe the suspect is located.

A witness reported seeing one person being taken into custody. However, police have not said why that person was arrested. The witness said authorities had several streets blocked off in the area of E. Wallace between Hobson and Union avenues. Several armed police officers were on the scene, as well as an armored police vehicle.
