Crews are working to get a handle on a pair of large grass fires burning in central Oklahoma.

Firefighters were called out to the scene after the grass fire flared up in southeastern Logan County, in the area of Luther Road and Forest Hills Road, just north of Luther, Okla.

The fire, which has already burned over 200 acres, is being driven north by wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. There are no fire hydrants in the area, compounding the problem for firefighters.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. At least one home has been destroyed. As of 5 p.m. the fire had spread north approximately three miles, from Forest Hills Road to Seward Road and is continuing north into an open field.

It is unclear if anyone has been injured.

A shelter was set up at the Meridian Fire Station on Highway 105.

Two National Guard helicopters were sent to help suppress the fire and started conducting water drops about 5 p.m.

Later fire crews from Mustang and Oklahoma City responded to the scene of another grass fire that started when a controlled burn grew out of control. That fire sparked up near SW 104 Street and Cemetery Road to the southwest of Mustang. A total of 16 fire units were called out.

Authorities had to shut down SW 104 while crews battle the blaze. Three homes were threatened, but crews worked quickly to keep them out of danger. Approximately 40 acres of land burned. No evacuations were made.
