A Logan County couple was arrested on drug charges, after their 2-year-old child was found wandering the streets Tuesday morning.
According to Logan County Sheriff’s office, at about 11:55 a.m., a deputy found the child walking in the street at Charter Oak Road and Santa Fe Trail Road. The child was wearing only pajama pants and a diaper.
The Department of Human Services (DHS) responded and took custody of the child, because authorities were unable to find the child’s parents.
At about 12:35 p.m. the child’s father called to report that his child had gone missing. The deputy and DHS workers then went to the child’s home in the 9800 block of Shannon Drive in Logan County, about 1000 feet from where the child was found, according to the Sheriff’s office.
The deputy could smell a strong odor of marijuana as he entered the home. The child’s father, 35-year-old Joshua Chance Bates, was at the home and the child’s mother, 35-year-old Megan Maye Bates, arrived as the deputy got to the home. The couple allowed the deputy to search their home. The deputy reportedly found remnants of marijuana plants, a candle jar full of marijuana, marijuana pipes, and a green plastic bin containing several items including marijuana. The green plastic bin was also partially full of water, in order to ferment the marijuana.
The two were then arrested for Possession of CDS in the Presence of a Minor. They also have other charges pending. The 2-year -old child and his siblings, ages 12 and 17, were taken into protective custody by DHS.
