Flooding Creates Concern Over Lake Overholser Dam

The Lake Overholser Dam is 97 years old. And earlier this week water had been jetting through the gates of the dam at 7,000 cubic feet per second.

The lake is named after a former Oklahoma City Mayor, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

But a photo of the dam has been circulating on social media the past few days, causing some to speculate there could be something structurally wrong.

City Utilities Spokesperson Debbie Ragan said in the past 15 years the highest volume of water the gates kicked out was 9,000 cubic feet per second in 2007. Tuesday afternoon, it had been ratcheted back to less than 2,000 cubic feet per second.

A fisherman told News 9 he pulled a 32-pound catfish out of it earlier Wednesday.
