Police arrested a 22-year-old man in connection to the death of a toddler.

Investigators were called out to the Bryan Hill Apartments near N.W. 36th and Rockwell on Monday afternoon after receiving a 911 call about an unresponsive child.

Chief Phil Cole said Dustin Melvin Davison made the call for help, but gave conflicting stories about how the child became injured.

In a recording of the 911 call, Davison can be heard telling the dispatcher that the 2 year old hit his head on the coffee table causing significant injury.

Dispatch: Bethany 911?

Caller: um, yes, my girlfriend's son, I'm babysitting him, he hit his head on the coffee table.

Caller: um, I was in the shower and next thing I know I come out and there's blood on left side of his head and also his forehead is severely bruised...and um, I think the internal bleeding from the skull went into the lungs.

Caller: I tried patting his back as many times as I could to get all of the blood out, but I'm just holding him right now hoping that he will make it through this.

Less than a minute into that call Davison is transferred to EMSA. Police say, at that point, he began giving conflicting statements about what happened - claiming he did not know how the child became injured.

Dispatch: Ok, so, did something happen to cause this?

Caller: I have no idea, like I said I was in the shower and I am freaking out right now.

Dispatch: He's coughing up blood, is that right?

Caller: He was. He's not anymore, but I don't know if he is even conscious or breathing right now.

By the time police and paramedics arrived to the home the toddler was unresponsive. Police say the child appeared to have suffered a skull fracture and had multiple bruises all over his body.

Davison was transported to the Bethany Police Department for questioning. Investigators said he then admitted he was not in the shower when the injuries occurred.

Bethany Police placed Davison under arrest as for First-Degree Murder by Child Abuse and Possession of CDS. He is currently being held in the Oklahoma County Jail without bond. Formal charges are pending.
