OKC Energy FC dropped its first match of the season, 2-1, to Saint Louis FC Saturday night at Taft Stadium. Energy FC (2-1-1) out-shot Saint Louis (2-2-1) by an 11-10 margin but Saint Louis scored two goals on three shots on target, while Energy FC scored the one with six shots on target.
Chuy Sanchez put the home team on the board first as he scored his second goal of the season in the 13th minute. Casey Townsend sent the ball in the box and Sanchez was there to finish the feed at the six-yard mark.
Jamiel Hardware pulled Saint Louis even in the 32nd minute as he danced around the Energy FC defenders and went low and to the left of goalkeeper Evan Newton to tie the match, 1-1. Saint Louis took the lead just before the half as Mike Ambersley scored in the 42nd minute off a rebound to propel Saint Louis to its eventual winning score of 2-1.
Mark Pais had five saves for Saint Louis, while Newton registered one.
Energy FC returns to action next Friday night, May 1, at the Austin Aztex in an 8 p.m. CT start. OKC is back at home on Saturday, May 9, against LA Galaxy II.
