A construction project on Interstate 44 between Western and Penn. will cause traffic problems for morning commuters over the next month.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) tells News 9 during one of the many projects to repair our highways they found more areas that needed repairs. One of those areas is known as the Belle Isle Bridge, so the orange cones are up and crews are out here along this major travel route.
The east and westbound lanes of I-44 between Western and Penn is normally a 3-lane stretch, but for the rest of the month ODOT says it will be down to 2 lanes. What crews will be working on is the Belle Isle Bridge, which is in need of repairs.
If you're looking for a way around this you can use Belle Isle Blvd. to the north or Classen to the south.
Also keep in mind, the on and off ramp to I-44 in both directions from Northwest Expressway are also closed.
