Two brothers were brutally beaten and kicked while someone else cheered and recorded the fight with their cell phone. The fight took place at the park across the street from Putnam City West High School where some of the boys go to school.
The cell phone video showed the men first punching one of the brothers. Then when his older brother stepped into help, he was knocked unconscious and then kicked in the head several times. The whole thing is difficult for anyone to watch, but the boy's mother said just thinking about it still brings her to tears.
“I was so upset I couldn't breathe,” she said on Monday. “I can't imagine someone beating kids like that, with that kind of force, no mercy. It's almost like they're trying to kill them. They just kept stomping even though he's unconscious, kept stomping them.”
She said she and her husband received a call from the school principal once the attack was over. She said she still fears the people who did this and asked News 9 not to identify her.
“We seen [sic] the boys were in the ambulance, they weren't able to talk at the time, they couldn't remember the day because they had been trampled so much at the time.”
One of the brothers suffered a broken cheek bone and orbital fracture. The other suffered a broken nose and concussion. Both may have to have reconstructive surgery.
The youngest boy said it all started when a student he didn't know challenged him to a fight.
“I was told if I didn't fight them they were going to jump me ‘cause I walk that way every day anyway,” he said. “So anyway I was screwed.”
But when he and his brother showed up to the park, several grown men were there.
“They come out of nowhere, nobody was expecting them.”
The whole thing was made worse, said the boy's mother, by the fact that someone was using the video and pictures to taunt the boys on social media.
Police said they do have names of suspects in this case and they could face aggravated assault and battery charges.
