A 111-year Oklahoma City tradition is about to come to an end. Samuel Gordon Jewelers across from Penn Square Mall has announced plans to close its doors for the last time.
Gary Gordon's grandfather Samuel founded the company back in 1904. Gordon said he's planning to close after all these years because he's about to turn 68 and he said it's just time “to smell the roses.”
“I still have a passion for the jewelry business, I love it,” he said. “This is something that gives me an awful lot of joy, but I needed to pace myself differently.” He said the store will stay open until the entire inventory is gone.
Gordon said his father Norman's death in 1980 had an impact on him.
He said he is getting out while his health is still “very good.”
He said he has no plans, other than to get some exercise and to look forward to a little traveling with his wife.
Smell those roses Gary.
