A local domestic violence expert is commending the NFL and the Baltimore Ravens for kicking star running back Ray Rice off the team, and suspending him from the NFL indefinitely.
Kristie Mitchell is Chief Programs Officer at Oklahoma City's YWCA Battered Women's Shelter. She says one in four women will be victims of domestic violence in their lifetime.
“When businesses, organizations, individuals and communities hold offenders accountable, it can promote safety for victims,” she said. “This is a pivotal moment I believe in professional sports to send such a strong message.”
