Police Arrest OKC Stepmother After 2-Year-Old Dies

An Oklahoma City stepmother is facing a child abuse charge after police said a 2-year-old was found dead Wednesday morning.

Kindell Adair, 33, told police she put her stepchild to bed the night before. Adair said the child had thrown up in bed and also needed a change of diaper around midnight. She told police she cleaned up the area, changed his diaper and gave the victim Pedialite because he had been running a fever earlier in the day. Then, the child fell and hit his head, according to Adair.

The victim's stepmother said she made sure the child was okay and put him back to bed around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim's father told police he went in to wake up the 2-year-old and discovered the child face down and not breathing. The victim's father told police another infant, who sleeps on the same air mattress, was sleeping on top of the victim. The victim's father called 911.

Child crime investigators and CSI units processed the scene. The Medical Examiner's Office took custody of the victim's body.

Kindell Adair is in the Oklahoma County Jail on one count of physical child abuse.
