The chairman of Oklahoma's Republican Party who supports the state lawmaker, who recently called out Islam on Facebook, says he wasn't the one who tried to pick a fight.

In an interview later Thursday, Weston said people of the Islamic religion are responsible for most of the unrest around the world.

Oklahoma City University Religious Studies Professor Imad Enchassi responded.
“Seems like the politics of divide, of division, the politics of fear as usual,” said Enchassi. “It will pass. It's just sad that officials who are elected to represent us, the people who choose to use a dividing language.”
Weston also added that he hoped both sides “can meet in the middle, and we can move on.”
