Edmond Woman Killed After Climbing Accident On Grand Tetons

An Edmond woman was killed in a fall during a guided ascent of the Grand Teton Mountains, early Monday morning.

According to a release by the Grand Teton National Park, Mary Margaret "Mimi" Bilyeu, 44, was climbing to the Upper Saddle of the Grand Teton with her climbing partner when she fell at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Monday.

By the time rescuers were able to reach Bilyeu they say she was unresponsive and could not be revived. The circumstances that led to the accident are under investigation by Grand Teton Nation Park rangers. According to the park, the Upper Saddle of the mountain sits at an elevation of approximately 13,160 feet above sea level.

Friends described Bilyeu as an incredibly caring mother, and a good friend. Her family operated the Santa Fe Tag Agency in Edmond for many years.
She leaves behind a large family, including her husband Mark, and two teenage children. She traveled to Africa this past March to help children at an international orphanage.

Rachel McNeill described her friend as the “ultimate baseball mom.”

“She, anytime you needed her, dependable, we just laughed because her words were, I’m in,” said McNeill. “Anytime you were in a bind, or needed help with a carpool, she was always in.”

The family is in the process of planning her funeral.
