Oklahoma Police, FBI Continue Murder Plot Investigation

The father of a metro man arrested in what police call a murder plot says he's heartbroken. The son is in jail tonight and investigators are trying to figure out if a substance found inside his home is hazardous.

At Preston Rhoads' home on North McKinley, the health department has posted a sign saying the home is unsafe and warns people to stay away. Tonight, News 9 spoke with Preston's father.

"It breaks my heart," said Harroll Rhoads. "He's been a great kid. He always has been."

Preston Rhoads' father spoke to News 9 after finding out the 30-year-old was booked into the Oklahoma County Jail for solicitation to commit murder.

"I can tell you one thing and one thing only, he has been a model son and a perfect child for 30 years," said Harroll.

Oklahoma City Police and FBI agents say Rhoads was planning a murder and they searched his home Thursday. The FBI says it processed his place for hazardous materials after finding an unknown substance.

Agents say they're only concerned about what's inside Rhoads' house and say the exterior of the home is safe. There was a scare involving the two patrol cars Rhoads sat in. Police say they may have been contaminated with hazardous materials, so they shut down two areas to investigate.

One spot was a Valero gas station near Main and Penn. The other police car was at an officer's home at Santa Fe and Indian Hills near Norman, which freaked out neighbors.

"It's very, very scary that this can go on in our own neighborhoods. Makes you wonder about our safety, that's for sure," said resident, Audrey Brasee.

While authorities await test results, Rhoads' family just wants to focus on their son.

"I think that anybody that knows him, or that has ever known him, would say the same thing that I just did," said Harroll.

Four officers were taken to the hospital for routine decontamination on Friday. Police and the FBI says there is no public health risk at this time.
