Police are on alert as thieves target vehicles at the Oklahoma State Fair.

Police tell News 9 vehicle theft at the fair is not uncommon, even as officials say theft is down for the year.

"We ended up walking up and down every aisle out here for about an hour," state fair crime victim Jaime Trevino said.

When Trevino and her family returned to the south parking lot near Reno, they realized their white pickup had vanished. That theft marked the first state fair vehicle theft for 2013. There have been a total of four break-ins, according to Oklahoma City police.

"Any break-ins, we're concerned about … but break-ins happen all over the city," said state fair spokesperson Scott Munz. "It's a crime of opportunity."

Trevino says a bad situation for her was actually made worse by OKCPD officers working at the fair.

"I was sitting on the curb crying, and [the officer] was in his air conditioned car," Trevino said.

Trevino says an officer told her to go home and call 911, even though police tell News 9 incident reports can be taken at the fair. Trevino says police would not give her a ride to a command post at the fair. Instead, she claims police let her sweat it out in the heat with her young daughter.

"The officers should be a little bit more compassionate," said Trevino. "I got home and took my blood pressure, and it was 145 over 115. That's not safe."

Eventually, Trevino's husband was able to file a police report at the fair. OKCPD's public information office had not received the report by late Monday and was withholding comment at that time.
