Mayor Mick Cornett announced Monday he will seek a fourth term as Oklahoma City's mayor in 2014.
Cornett was first elected in 2004. He's only the fourth mayor in Oklahoma City history to be elected to a third term.

In a news release, Cornett said his leadership has led to stronger neighborhoods, job growth and dramatic improvements in quality of life. He also highlighted his strong advocacy for education and healthier lifestyles.
Cornett will face off against Oklahoma City Councilman Ed Shadid. Shadid announced in June he would run for mayor. He plans to kick of his campaign August 15 with a rally.

Candidates must file for the mayoral race by the end of January. A primary will be held in March.
