A man was arrested after leading an Oklahoma County Sheriff's deputy on a pursuit in a stolen pickup truck in Oklahoma City early Sunday morning. Deputies are looking for a passenger who jumped from the truck during the chase.
At about 6:15 a.m. a deputy saw a pickup truck run a stop sign. Dispatchers alerted the deputy that the truck was stolen.
The deputy attempted to stop the truck at S.E. 29th Street and S. Henney Road. That's when a passenger jumped out of the truck.
The deputy continued to chase the truck. At about 6:55 a.m. the pursuit came to an end as the deputy initiated a tactical vehicle intervention, spinning the truck out at N.W. 47th Street and Penn. Avenue, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The driver, later identified as 30-year-old Joseph Michael Avery, was taken into custody.
Avery was transported to the hospital to be checked out as a precaution. According to the Sheriff's Office, Avery has a warrant out of Canadian County, and will face additional charges of eluding an officer, possession of a stolen vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.
The passenger who jumped got out of the stolen truck was not found. Deputies say an investigation into who that person was is ongoing.
