Love's Travel Stops opened its first compressed natural gas station in the metro on Monday.
Governor Mary Fallin and other state leaders were on hand for the ceremony at Love's Travel Stops on Interstate 40 at the Morgan Road exit west of downtown Oklahoma City.
Governor Fallin and Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper are leading a group of 22 states that want to use CNG vehicles in their fleets.
CNG is currently $2 less a gallon and Governor Fallin credits Oklahoma with being in the lead when it comes to changing to a cheaper domestic fuel.
"It's a great initiative that is being done here. It is truly a game changer for our nation, but we couldn't commit to being able to purchase CNG vehicles from Detroit, unless we had the infrastructure," Governor Fallin said.
Tom Love, founder of Love's Travel Stops says they will continue to monitor demand and will look to expand CNG stations in Oklahoma and Texas.
