Oklahoma City Police arrested a man and a woman accused of kidnapping a woman and demanding $2,000 for her release.
Trista Ferguson's mother called police and said her daughter was in danger. She told officers Ferguson was kidnapped and being held for ransom by a Mexican drug cartel.
According to a police report, Ferguson called her mother on September 18 and asked for $2,000, saying she had to pay off a debt to some members of the cartel. Ferguson said the cartel was going to hurt her if she didn't get the money.
When Ferguson's mother said she didn't have that much money, another woman got on the phone and told her to provide $500 that night, and the rest of the money the next day. When the call ended, Ferguson's mother called police.
Police went to Ferguson's apartment and spoke with her roommate. The woman said she'd seen Ferguson willingly leave a few hours earlier with two other women, but she said Ferguson had also mentioned owing $2,000 to "some people."
Police were finally able to locate Ferguson. She was safe and unharmed. Police arrested two people they said were holding the woman for ransom. Norma Aguilar, 33, and Miguel Garcia, 25, were booked into jail for kidnapping for purposes of extortion, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
