On August 31, police received a 911 call around 3:30 a.m. about a burglary in the 9000 block of Winston Way near S.W. 89th Street and Western. The family told officers people broke into the house, stabbed 47-year-old father Arthur Strozewski several times, and tied up his 14-year-old son. Strozewski's 16-year-old daughter was able to hide in a closet and call police.

Police arrested three people in connection with the murder. Eddie Thompson, 34, was arrested a block away from the crime soon after officers arrived. Loretta Hawks, 33, voluntarily turned herself in at police headquarters at about 2 p.m. on August 31, and police picked up 17-year-old Sebastian Shepherd in the 5700 block of S. Agnew.

After interviewing the victim's children, police learned that Hawks had been living in their house, but was not home during the crime.

According to police, Hawks admitted to living with Strozewski and accused him of raping her. Hawks said she had told Thompson about the rape, and then drove Thompson and Shepherd, also known as "Mac Trey," to Strozewski's house to "beat him up." However, she denied knowing what happened to Strozewski and being involved in his murder.

Just before 6 a.m. on August 31, Hawks called Thompson's sister, who he had been living with, and asked her if she knew where he was. Hawks told Thompson's sister that something bad had happened.

At about 8 p.m. that day, Thompson's sister called police and said she had met up with the other suspect in the case, Sebastian Shepherd, and asked him about Thompson's arrest and the murder.

Shepherd said Hawks and Thompson had talked to him about going to rob Strozewski, and they drove to Strozewski's house together. Hawks parked the car down the street and got inside Strozewski's house through an open window, Shepard said.

Hawks then left the window open and left the house, Shepard said, and he and Thompson entered the home through that window.

Shepherd said they went upstairs and when they confronted Strozewski, he began to fight them and Shepherd said he began to stab Strozewski. Shepherd told police he was able to escape before police could see him.

Thompson was arrested on charges of felony murder, kidnapping, and first degree burglary.
