Bicycle Share Program Begins In Downtown OKC

People in downtown Oklahoma City and Bricktown may soon see more visitors getting around on two wheels.

Oklahoma City launched "Spokies" on Friday. It's a bicycle share program that allows people to grab a bike and explore the area.

The city says "Spokies" is an affordable and environmentally-friendly way to travel. There are six solar-powered, self-serve kiosks in the downtown area. Riders can simply swipe their credit cards and take off.

The first 30 minutes are free. Each additional hour is $2, and the maximum charge per day is $75. Bike riders can buy a membership for $5 per day, $20 per month, or $75 per year.

The kiosks only accept credit cards; no cash or debit cards. If the bike is not returned within 48 hours, credit cards will automatically be charged $500.
