The city of Edmond could soon be getting into the hotel business.
The city is close to agreeing to invest $11 million on a hotel and convention center project. The development would be built at I-35 and Covell.
The city's $11-million investment would go towards the $25 million the project will cost.
The city is also working with private developers, who are working to attract several national retailers and restaurants to the project as well.
"When you bring in business from the outside, you're gonna have additional growth that grows around the hotel and conference center," said Edmond Economic Development Executive Director Janet Yowell.
Yowell says the city could agree to the deal within the next 30 days. She also says, if they do this right, the project could attract more than $100 million in private development.
