Severe Thunderstorm Causes Damage In Oklahoma

Spring-like thunderstorms packing rain, hail and strong, straight-line winds caused some damage as they sped through several Oklahoma counties.

A severe thunderstorm knocked down light poles onto vehicles, toppled signs and broke windows at the Edmond Hyundai automobile dealership north of Oklahoma City Monday afternoon. General manager David Patel says no one was hurt, and officials didn't know how many vehicles had been affected.

The National Weather Service reported a 69-mph wind gust west of Oklahoma City, as well as wind gusts of 63 mph near Braman, 61 mph near Kingfisher and 60 mph near Hobart.

The Devon Tower in Oklahoma City also suffered some storm damage Monday night.

According to Garvin Kalley with Holder Flintco, high winds during Monday's storm caused the tail of a crane to slightly shift. It broke one pane of glass on the 32nd floor of the building. Officials said no one was hurt and there is no damage on the ground.

A mobile home located in the Happyland community in Pontotoc County has been overturned by high winds during the thunderstorms. Emergency crews responded to the incident just before 6 p.m. Monday. The mobile home is located near Highway 1 and County Road 3630.

Officials with the Ada Fire Department told News 9 that the Medical Examiner is on the scene, and there is one storm-related death.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for 28 counties in central and northern Oklahoma until 10 p.m. Monday for the possibility of large hail and damaging winds. Severe storm warnings were issued for Garfield, Grant, Kay and Noble counties.
