NORMAN, Oklahoma – Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones is front and center on the cover of the upcoming Sports Illustrated 2011 College Football Preview magazine.
The newest issue, that hits newsstands August 22 marks the 32nd time Sooner football has been featured on the cover.
Jones is one of five players featured in the newest issue. He is joined by South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffery, Nebraska offensive tackle Jared Crick, Alabama running back Trent Richardson and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck.
This year the preview selected five teams to be featured on the regional-based covers. Although each different region's cover looks similar, the player in the center is different for each region based on the magazine's preseason top 25 rankings, which are one of the main features of the issue.
This is also the 11th time since 2000 that an OU player has been featured in the magazine. The preseason No. 1 ranked Sooners are also being featured on ESPN throughout the week. You can view the entire ESPN schedule here.
Five Sooners and five Cowboys also made Sports Illustrated Pre-season All-Big 12 list.
Jones along with wide receiver Ryan Broyles, center Ben Habern, defensive lineman Frank Alexander and running back Travis Lewis were all on the list for the Sooners. For Oklahoma State, wide receiver Justin Blackmon, running back Joseph Randle, tackle Levy Adcock, guard Lane Taylor and punter Quinn Sharp were named to the SI Pre-season All-Big 12 list.
Landry Jones and the Sooners begin the season Sept. 3 in Norman hosting the University of Tulsa at 7 p.m.
